Welcome to my A2 Media Blog!

Hello, I'm Ronan Johnson!!!
Last year for my AS Media Production, Me and two fellow media students researched, planned and produced the film opening to an action adventure film, here's the link to my AS Blog : http://ronanjohnson.blogspot.co.uk/

The final product turned out very well in terms of what we were trying to go for when tackling the brief given and a few things that went particularly great within the process of the production, and the production itself, was the communication we had as a group. This included knowing what each person was doing and if someone needed to pick up the pace we could easily talk it over to make sure that was done and that as many objectives and deadlines were met as possible. This also helped us overcome some of the obstacles we faced, such as the camera unexpectedly dying during filming or water issues since, instead of just falling apart, we sorted it out and pushed to the finish. In previous productions we have stuck to just one location whereas, this time we switched between three locations which impacted the production in the best way possible because of the fact that it just made it generally more interesting to watch with a constant change in scenery, as well as also helping to show the progression of the main chase we had, up until the finish. We also limited dialogue as none of us are anywhere close to professional actors and by doing this it didn't make the production slightly cringe worthy due to bad acting and this result is something i've definitely taken into account as i've started the A2 Media Production. In the production the flow of the clips and filming worked well as we knew what shots we needed to get before hand, plus we also had the soundtrack pre-hand to match them to as well, which we found was more effective and efficient.

There's always something that could use improvement and within the process of our AS Production and our final product there were a few things that didn't end up being the best they could have been, starting with locations. Even though I did say that something that went well was the switch between the locations, the locations themselves weren't the best. This is because we hadn't spent as much time searching for the perfect location as we maybe should have and what we ended up with was locations that were chosen in the spur of the moment and that were familiar to us. Because of this, the locations seemed quite generic in some senses and weren't up to the greatest standard in what they provided. This year I aim to find a location that really captures and adds to the production.
A big thing was the soundtrack, it's an area of editing we were not particularly strong in and I felt that as a team we should of spent more time researching and finding a good and appropriate soundtrack, rather than quickly choosing one and not considering others. Another thing I mentioned that went well was the limitation of dialogue, which I stand by however, it did have it's disadvantages. Sometimes narrative and dialogue can offer a quick back story to help the audience understand events that could take place over years, in minutes. Due to us not really doing any of that I felt that our storyline wasn't the clearest and that's something to keep an eye on in this A2 production. Moving onto the blog work; within the team we did find ourselves on different sections a lot and this meant many of us were going at different paces with varying levels and kinds of work. Sometimes this led to confusion among the group and meant some work had to be copied from others to keep up to date. This time, I am on my own and therefore am able to stick purely to my own pace and this means there shouldn't be as much confusion in terms of workload and what's being done in general.

Overall, I am feeling very determined to get everything during this year's production, to be it's best and I will be holding on to and acting on this idea throughout.

A big goal for my A2 Production is getting the perfect location as it can set the tone for the whole production. Also, doing way more testing with the camera before officially filming, which is something we didn't do last year but I feel could be very helpful.

I put a lot of detail into my AS Media Blog however, I want to put even more into my A2 one especially with there being two secondary tasks, I want to do them all to the best of my ability and to do so I need to make sure I leave enough time for each one and do effective research for each one. One big problem for me, personally, was that last year I had quite a bit of trouble with time management and meeting deadlines which caused me to fall behind quite a few times. This time around, I want to completely focus on getting any work done within recommended deadlines, so as to constantly have work up to date.

Lastly, another big goal, is to take the stuff that didn't go well in my AS Production and to be able to work on this experience and incorporate it within my A2 Production.
