Target Audience

This year, I've decided to make my target audience aged around 15 and over, as opposed to the lower ages that we usually ended up using for our previous productions. This is because I feel as though it will be on more of a mature level both graphically and internally within the plot, than the others. I've also had a quick look at other similar films and realised that they have a similar age rating too. Also, giving the film this age rating still leaves a relatively large age gap in who can actually watch it, meaning there will still be a wide audience, while still actually keeping it focused at the mid to late teens. There's quite a large fanbase within the horror genre anyway, helping to further reinforce the chance of appealing to a wider audience.

A few examples of similar films that follow this age rating are The Conjuring, Ouija and The Purge as they are all relatively scary and intense, but don't have a whole lot of violent or mature content. A lot of these movies follow typical horror conventions too, such as including the use of demons or ghosts, being set in very familiar environments (usually houses) to the audience and lots more. In particular, the film Ouija relates quite closely to my own production due to the fact that I've also considered using an Ouija board, or something very similar. From this it will also lead to paranormal happenings that are quite a crucial part of the plot. From this, I have been able to better identify and categorize what my own film should be rated as, whilst also just helping to develop the initial ideas in general.
